Tesla's 2026.26.6.5 software update combines the company's latest summer features with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14.3.8. For Hardware 3 vehicles, Tesla is also introducing a dedicated FSD v14.1 Lite release. The update is notable for two reasons. FSD v14.3.8 brings changes to reinforcement learning, vision processing, driving behavior, parking and driver monitoring, while FSD v14.1 Lite uses knowledge distillation to bring aspects of HW4 FSD v14 intelligence to HW3.Beyond FSD, the Tesla 2026.26.6.5 update adds navigation improvements, new Grok vehicle controls, an 8 mph speed increase for Actually Smart Summon, new FSD controls, visual changes, entertainment features, service-mode improvements and security fixes.

Tesla FSD v14.3.8: What's New?

FSD v14.3.8 focuses heavily on improving how the system understands and responds to difficult driving situations. The update includes changes to reinforcement learning, the vision encoder, AI compilation and runtime, as well as behavior control.

AI and reinforcement-learning improvements

Tesla has upgraded the reinforcement-learning stage used during neural-network training. The goal is to improve performance across a range of driving scenarios.

The vision encoder has also been enhanced, improving the system's understanding of 3D geometry in low-visibility and rare situations, along with traffic-sign recognition.

Another major change is the AI compiler and runtime rewrite based on MLIR. According to the source release information, the rewrite makes response speed 20% faster and also accelerates model iteration.

That 20% figure should be understood as the reported improvement associated with the compiler and runtime changes, rather than a guarantee that every aspect of FSD will respond 20% faster in every driving situation.

Driving behavior and safety improvements

FSD v14.3.8 makes a number of smaller behavior changes that can affect everyday driving.

The system reduces unnecessary lane deviations and instances of following slightly too closely. Parking-space selection and parking behavior are also more decisive. The predicted parking position is now shown on the map with a "P" icon.

The update also improves how FSD responds to special road situations involving emergency vehicles, school buses and vehicles occupying lanes illegally.

Tesla has added more difficult reinforcement-learning cases and increased active-safety rewards to improve the system's handling of small animals. Complex traffic-light intersections, curves and stopping decisions at yellow lights are also addressed through training on difficult cases collected from the fleet.

If the system experiences a temporary performance degradation, the vehicle can maintain control and automatically recover. This is intended to reduce unnecessary driver takeovers.

Parking and driver-monitoring improvements

Driver monitoring has also been refined. The system's accuracy is improved for eye tracking, glasses use and changing lighting conditions.

FSD's parking behavior receives additional attention as well. In addition to more decisive parking-space selection, the update adds new controls for parking, pulling away and reversing.

Tesla FSD v14.1 Lite Brings New Capabilities to HW3

One of the most significant parts of the Tesla HW3 FSD update is FSD v14.1 Lite, a version specifically designed for Hardware 3.

Tesla's v14.1 Lite uses knowledge distillation to transfer aspects of the intelligence used by HW4 FSD v14 to HW3. This allows the older hardware platform to draw on approaches developed for HW4, including improvements involving reinforcement learning and offline models that were previously associated with HW4.

This does not mean that HW3 receives complete HW4 feature parity. Instead, the source describes v14.1 Lite as a way of transferring aspects of HW4's intelligence and processing approach to the Hardware 3 platform.

Driving and comfort improvements

FSD v14.1 Lite improves active and passive responses in several situations, including:

  • Navigation and route handling

  • Merging at forks

  • Pedestrian interactions

  • Traffic lights

  • Vehicles cutting into the lane

The changes are also intended to make everyday driving feel smoother. The update reduces unnecessary slowdowns, makes steering smoother and improves lane centering.

New parking and speed-profile capabilities

The HW3 version adds new parking, pull-away and reversing functions.

When arriving at a destination, drivers can choose between parking in a parking lot, on the street or in a driveway. Speed profiles can be used throughout the drive to customize the vehicle's driving style.

These changes give Tesla HW3 owners more control over how FSD behaves while also expanding the range of situations covered by the v14.1 Lite release.

New FSD Speed, Parking and Arrival Controls

The Tesla 2026.26.6.5 update also changes how drivers interact with FSD.

FSD can now be started from a parked position using a button, provided the driver is present, the seat belt is fastened and the cameras are unobstructed.

Arrival options can be saved for individual destinations. Available choices include parking lots, street parking, driveways and, where applicable, Robotaxi drop-off points.

Speed selection now takes the driver's selected profile, the posted speed limit and traffic conditions into account. Tesla has also added a new SLOTH mode.

SLOTH is designed to drive more slowly and make more conservative lane choices than CHILL mode. The steering-wheel scroll control has also changed: instead of adjusting a precise speed offset, it adjusts the selected speed profile.

The central driving visualization can be used to adjust speed profiles and arrival options directly. The Tesla mobile app can also display autonomous-driving statistics.

Actually Smart Summon Gets an 8 mph Speed Increase

Actually Smart Summon can now reach a maximum speed of 8 mph (13 km/h) under the update.

There is one important exception: this speed change does not apply to the Cybertruck.

The update also adds more information after a driver takes over. The main screen can be used to select the reason for the intervention, while driving statistics can show miles driven without intervention and the longest recorded distance.

Tesla Summer Update Adds Navigation, Grok and More

The Tesla Summer Update 2026 isn't limited to FSD. Several changes are aimed at everyday navigation, vehicle controls, entertainment and the user interface.

Navigation and battery-range improvements

Battery-range estimation now takes vehicle aging characteristics into account.

Navigation can also prioritize previously used routes, while automatic navigation can suggest frequently visited destinations such as a school or gym.

The navigation display also adds speed-camera information.

New Grok vehicle controls

Grok gains more direct vehicle-control capabilities. It can now:

  • Make phone calls

  • Play music

  • Adjust the climate system

  • Search the vehicle's control panel

Drivers can wake Grok with "Hey Grok," and the system also supports location-based reminders.

The voice engine has been upgraded to Think Fast 2.0. Certain settings now use a pulsing blue highlight when they are being accessed.

App, visual and entertainment updates

The update includes several smaller visual and entertainment changes.

Vehicle-color lighting and rendering are more accurate. Caraoke can now score performances and record high scores while the vehicle is parked, while rear passengers can scan a QR code to add songs.

The Tesla mobile app also supports uploading custom vehicle wrap designs.

Service Mode and Security Improvements

Tesla has added customer-data isolation in Service Mode to prevent personal account information from being accessed or settings from being changed during service.

For technicians, the signal viewer can now compare multiple CAN signals on the same graph, making it easier to examine related vehicle data.

The Tesla 2026.26.6.5 update also includes important security fixes.

What Does Tesla 2026.26.6.5 Mean for Tesla Owners?

For owners using FSD, the most significant changes are concentrated in two releases.

FSD v14.3.8 focuses on driving intelligence, difficult scenarios, behavior control, parking and driver monitoring. For HW3 owners, FSD v14.1 Lite is the more notable development because it uses knowledge distillation to transfer aspects of HW4 FSD v14 intelligence to older hardware.

The broader summer update adds useful changes outside FSD, including new navigation behavior, expanded Grok controls, updated Actually Smart Summon performance, additional app features and service-mode protections.

Taken together, 2026.26.6.5 is more than a routine software release. It combines a substantial FSD update with a dedicated HW3 FSD v14.1 Lite version and a broad set of Tesla summer features.
