Tesla has officially confirmed that it will hold a launch event for the Tesla Cybercab, while its official Robotaxi X account has announced a passenger sweepstakes offering winners a chance to attend the event.

According to the announcement, people who complete Robotaxi rides between August 17 and August 23 will have a chance to win an invitation to the launch event. The more eligible rides a participant completes, the more entries they can earn. Five winners will be selected and announced on August 25.

Five Winners Will Receive Invitations to the Launch Event

According to the official sweepstakes rules, participants can earn entries by completing eligible Robotaxi rides. Canceled or incomplete trips do not count toward the sweepstakes. Participants can also enter by mail without purchasing or taking a Robotaxi ride.

The sweepstakes is open to legal residents of all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia who have reached the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction.

Five winners will be selected at random. Each winner will receive an opportunity to attend Tesla's Cybercab launch event in Austin, along with merchandise valued at approximately $25. The total approximate prize value is $125.

Winners are responsible for their own transportation costs to and from the event. They will be notified by email on August 25 and must respond within 24 hours to confirm their acceptance.

Cybercab Event Could Take Place in Austin in Late August or Early September

Tesla has not yet announced the exact date or location of the event. However, reports from The Information, combined with the sweepstakes timeline, suggest that the event could take place in Austin in late August or early September.

The Information previously reported that Tesla was preparing to launch the Cybercab for public use in Austin as early as August. The newly announced sweepstakes adds further weight to that report.

Tesla is reportedly planning to offer public-road rides to employees first, followed by the integration of the Cybercab into Austin's Robotaxi service a few days later. This comes as Tesla continues expanding its autonomous ride-hailing network across the U.S. Read more about Tesla's Robotaxi expansion to seven U.S. cities.

Over the past several weeks, the company has been preparing for the launch through test drives, private-road employee rides, and training for emergency responders.

Cybercab Production and Testing Continue

On the production side, Tesla has started Cybercab production at Giga Texas, with large numbers of vehicles appearing outside Austin, including more than 100 vehicles in the Dallas area and smaller fleets in other parts of the U.S. Earlier reports showed more than 100 Cybercabs staged at Giga Texas as Tesla accelerated production.

In April, investor relations executive Travis Axelrod said the first vehicles would "roll off the line by the end of Q2," while equipment installation at Giga Texas was progressing according to plan. Tesla is also hiring for multiple engineering and technical positions in Texas.

The Cybercab is being manufactured using Tesla's new "Unboxed Process," in which different vehicle components are produced separately before final assembly. The process was patented by Tesla, with the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office late last month.

Tesla began testing production-version Cybercabs on public roads in June, with production expected to increase later this year.

Cybercab Features Hardware Designed for Autonomous Driving

The Cybercab is a fully autonomous electric vehicle designed specifically for Robotaxi use. It features a two-seat layout and does not have traditional pedals or a steering wheel.

Tesla Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy has also said that the steering wheels seen in some test vehicles are for testing purposes only and will not be offered on production vehicles.

Unlike Tesla's existing Model Y Robotaxi fleet, the Cybercab is equipped with a more powerful FSD computer and additional memory. It may use the AI5 or AI4+ platform. The vehicle also features dedicated hardware such as camera washers and an integrated Starlink antenna.

Elon Musk previously said that Tesla's Robotaxi expansion would not accelerate significantly before FSD v15. The Cybercab is expected to be one of the first Tesla vehicles designed around this next-generation software, which could feature roughly 10 times the number of parameters compared with the current version. Tesla's FSD v14 Lite has already shown measurable improvements in autonomous-driving performance, including a reported 37% reduction in reaction time on HW3 vehicles.

The Cybercab is also designed with passenger comfort in mind, with Tesla describing it as a vehicle intended to provide a smooth ride throughout the journey.

Tesla's autonomous ride-hailing service launched in Austin earlier this year using Model Y vehicles equipped with FSD software. As the Cybercab launch approaches, the addition of a vehicle designed specifically for autonomous driving could further expand and strengthen Tesla's Robotaxi network.
