Tesla just made it easier to know when your car is driving itself.
A new update to the Tesla mobile app lets you see — in real time — whether Full Self-Driving (FSD) is currently active on your vehicle, right from your phone.
What's New in App Version 4.58.5
The update rolling out now is Tesla app version 4.58.5.
It introduces a new FSD status indicator directly in the app interface.
To access this feature, two conditions must be met:

What the Animation Actually Looks Like
When FSD is active, the app displays a blue "Self-Driving" badge just below the speed readout.
The blue styling matches what you'd see on the vehicle's main touchscreen.
At the same time, the 3D car model on the left side of the app shows a glowing blue navigation path — the same iconic look Tesla uses on the in-car display.
Why This Is a Big Deal
Tesla has used a full 3D vehicle model in its app for years.
But this is the first time the app has shown a live FSD activation state — including the blue path and "Self-Driving" label — in real time.
It marks a meaningful step forward in how Tesla visualizes vehicle status on mobile.
Works on Older Hardware Too
This isn't limited to newer vehicles.
According to a video shared by Jordan Camina (@hletes) on X, the feature works on a Model S running HW3 — confirming that older hardware is supported.
