Tesla has officially rolled out the Tesla 2026.20.6.1 software update across its vehicle lineup. This OTA release brings meaningful improvements across safety, AI interaction, privacy, and parental controls.
Safer Door Opening: Blind Spot Warning While Parked

Getting doored is a real danger — especially for cyclists.
Tesla's new update addresses this with a parked blind spot alert system. When the vehicle detects an object approaching in a blind zone (like a cyclist coming from behind), it will:
Sound an alert tone
Block the door from opening on the first button press
To open the door, simply wait a moment, then press the button again. This two-step confirmation gives both the occupant and the approaching person time to react.
Dashcam Videos Are Now Encrypted
Your dashcam footage just got a privacy upgrade.
Videos saved to a USB drive are now encrypted by default, meaning they can only be viewed on the vehicle that recorded them.

For owners looking to maximize dashcam performance, note that 24-hour continuous loop recording is now supported — but requires at least 1 TB of storage. See our complete guide on Tesla's extended dashcam recording and hardware requirements
"Hey Grok" Is Here — Your AI Co-Pilot
Tesla's AI assistant Grok is now officially available in-vehicle — building on its initial Spring 2026 debut. If you missed the original rollout, our Tesla Spring 2026 Software Update overview covers everything from Grok's first launch to FSD gamification and Pet Mode.
How to wake it up:
Tap the Grok icon in the app launcher
Long-press the voice button on the steering wheel
Say "Hey Grok" (must be enabled in Grok settings first)
What Grok can do:
Add and edit navigation destinations (in Assistant mode)
Set location-based reminders — e.g., "Remind me to buy milk when I'm near home"
Offer multiple voice styles and personality options
A few things to know:
Requires Premium Connectivity or a Wi-Fi connection
Conversations are anonymous and not linked to your vehicle
Currently in early beta — voice control is limited to navigation only
Your existing voice commands are unaffected
Parental Controls Now Cover Entertainment
Parents now have more control over what's accessible inside the car.
When the vehicle is parked, you can restrict access to:
Browser
Theater (streaming apps)
Arcade games
Where to find it: Controls → Safety → Parental Controls
This is a straightforward but practical addition for families sharing a vehicle.
New Front Camera Cleaning Panel for Service Mode

This one's primarily for service technicians — but owners with a DIY streak will appreciate it too.
A new Front Camera View Cleaning Panel has been added under the Driver Assistance menu. It displays a live camera feed with zoom support, making it easier to clean the windshield camera area precisely.
Compatible vehicles:
Model 3 and Model Y (with DAS AI4)
Model S and Model X (2021 and newer)
Cybertruck
Interactive Signal Charts in Service Mode Plus
For technicians using Service Mode Plus, the Drive Unit panel now supports interactive signal chart pop-ups.
Signal points with a chart icon can be tapped to open a pop-up window
Windows are draggable and resizable
Enables real-time signal monitoring during diagnostics
This is a significant workflow improvement for service centers handling advanced diagnostics.
Tesla's 2026.20.6.1 update is a well-rounded release — balancing everyday safety improvements with powerful new AI features and deeper service tooling. Keep an eye on your vehicle's update notification.
