The Tesla Rental Program is gearing up to expand its direct-to-consumer vehicle rental service to four new U.S. states. According to recent job postings on Tesla's official careers page, the company is preparing to launch rental operations in Maryland, Kansas, Washington, and Pennsylvania.
Tesla is actively hiring rental preparation specialists in these regions. The role covers fleet inventory management, vehicle prep before delivery, customer pickup and return coordination, paperwork processing, and billing settlement. This hiring push signals that Tesla is building out the operational teams needed to support rental fleets in these new markets — though no official launch dates have been announced yet.
Tesla Rental Program Prices by Model
Here's a quick breakdown of the daily rental rates:
Model |
Daily Rate |
|---|---|
Model 3 |
$60/day |
Model Y |
$60/day |
Cybertruck |
$75/day |
It's worth noting that actual pricing may vary by state. Once the service goes live, customers should confirm specific rates with their local Tesla location.
Previously, the rental fleet also included the Model S and Model X at $90/day. However, Tesla discontinued both flagship models earlier this year, and they are no longer available for rental.

What’s Included With Every Tesla Rental
Each rental comes bundled with a generous package of perks:
Unlimited mileage — no distance caps during your rental period
Free Supercharging — no extra charging costs at Tesla's Supercharger network
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) — access to Tesla's advanced driver assistance features
Full mobile app access — control your rental through the Tesla app just like an owner
Rental Terms and Restrictions
The rental period runs a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 7 days. One important limitation: vehicles must stay within the state where they are registered. Cross-state road trips are not supported under this program.
Rent a Tesla, Get $250 Off a New One
Here's where the rental program doubles as a sales tool. If you rent a Tesla and then purchase a brand-new Tesla within 7 days of returning the rental, you'll receive a $250 discount on your new vehicle.
This effectively turns the rental into an extended, multi-day test drive. Potential buyers get to live with the car for several days — experiencing daily commutes, road trips, and charging routines firsthand. The $250 credit adds an extra financial incentive to convert from renter to owner.
How the Tesla Rental Program Evolved
Tesla’s rental program wasn’t originally designed as a commercial service. It first launched as a loaner program for service center customers, allowing owners to rent a temporary replacement vehicle for just $45 per day while their Tesla was being repaired. We covered the program in detail in our earlier article, Tesla’s New $45 Daily Rental Program: A Game-Changer for Owners During Repairs.

In fall of last year, Tesla opened the program to the general public, launching first in California. By December, the service expanded to Michigan. Now, with California operations showing progress, the new job postings indicate Tesla is ready to push the program into additional states.
While launch dates haven't been confirmed, the new markets are expected to follow the same operational model as California.
Why Tesla's Rental Pricing Stands Out
Tesla's all-in-one daily rate bundles costs that traditional rental companies typically charge separately:
Feature |
Tesla Rental |
Traditional Rental |
|---|---|---|
Mileage |
Unlimited |
Often capped or extra |
Charging/Fuel |
Free Supercharging |
Pay at pump or per charge |
Driver Assistance |
FSD (Supervised) included |
Rarely available |
App Integration |
Full Tesla app access |
Limited or none |
By folding mileage, charging, and advanced driver assistance into a single flat rate, Tesla undercuts many third-party rental services on total cost — especially for multi-day use.
Combined with the $250 purchase credit for renters who buy within a week, the program blends experiential marketing with commercial leasing. It's a strategy that lowers the barrier from first drive to first purchase — and gives Tesla another touchpoint to convert curious shoppers into owners.
