Europe’s First 500 kW V4 Supercharger Goes Live in Norway(image)

The next generation of EV charging has officially landed in Europe. Tesla has opened its first "true" V4 Supercharger station in Hellerudsletta, Norway, at Kragerudveien 50. Featuring 28 stalls capable of delivering up to 500 kW each, this site represents a massive leap in charging infrastructure for the European market.

1. Beyond the Post: The V4 Cabinet

While Tesla has deployed V4 "posts"—the tall, black-and-white stalls—across Europe since 2023, many were connected to older V3 power cabinets. These setups were limited to roughly 250 kW and 500 volts, a configuration often referred to as "V3.5."

The new Norway site features genuine V4 cabinets. Unlike their predecessors, these cabinets are engineering marvels designed for efficiency and high performance:

2. What This Means for Charging Speeds

The 500 kW output is a massive ceiling increase. However, most current passenger vehicles, including the mainstream Model 3, S, X, and Y, still charge at around 250 kW. The full potential of these stations is currently unlocked by the Cybertruck and 800V-platform EVs from other manufacturers.

  • Cybertruck Performance: At V4 stations, the Cybertruck can reach speeds equivalent to roughly 2,100 km/h (1,300 miles per hour) of range.

  • 800V Compatibility: Higher voltage support allows modern EVs to charge more efficiently without needing internal voltage boosters.

3. The Road Ahead: Expansion in Europe

Tesla has officially stopped production of V3 cabinets at its Buffalo, New York Gigafactory, shifting focus entirely to the V4 platform. Going forward, V4 cabinets will be the standard configuration for all new Supercharger sites across Europe.

To accelerate this transition, Tesla is introducing "folding" pre-assembled stations. These units arrive on trucks fully wired and ready to be unfolded at the site, which can reduce installation times significantly. We can expect to see these upgraded sites popping up in France, the Netherlands, and the UK throughout the second half of 2026.
