Tesla Unveils Model Y L: China-Exclusive 6-Seater With Extended Wheelbase (image)

Tesla has officially revealed its new Model Y L, a 6-seater variant of the world's best-selling electric SUV designed specifically for the Chinese market.

With a longer 3,040mm wheelbase, optimized interior space, and premium features, this model bridges the gap between the standard Model Y and Model X. The specs were confirmed in China's MIIT filings, with launch set for Fall 2025.

1. 6-Seat Layout & Space Optimization

The Model Y L introduces Tesla's first 6-seat configuration outside the flagship Model X. Unlike the cramped 7-seat Model Y, this version features a usable third row thanks to its extended wheelbase.

Key improvements include:

  • - 3040mm wheelbase (150mm longer than standard Model Y)

  • - 4976mm total length for enhanced legroom

  • - Optimized seat design for adult-sized third-row comfort

2. Dimensions: Between Model Y and Model X

Here's how the Model Y L compares to other Tesla SUVs:

  • Top speed of 201km/h (125mph)

  • 82.5kWh LFP battery with 688km (CLTC) range

  • Standard dual-motor AWD system

Note: CLTC range standards differ from North America's EPA measurements

4. Market Positioning & Availability

Pricing is expected to be higher than current Model Y AWD variants in China. Tesla typically charges $6,500 extra for 6-seat configurations in Model X, suggesting similar premium pricing.

The Fall 2025 launch is currently China-exclusive. No plans for North American or European markets have been announced. This model specifically targets Chinese demand for long-wheelbase family SUVs with premium seating.
