Tesla has begun rolling out a new North America maps update, NA-2026.38, bringing refreshed road information, speed limit data, points of interest, and lane guidance to vehicles across the United States and Canada.
The update arrives just over two months after NA-2026.26, marking a faster release cycle than Tesla's typical schedule of roughly two map updates per year.
Alongside the updated map data, Tesla's 2026.38 software series is also introducing improved Supercharger station views, giving drivers more detailed information about charging locations.
The rollout is happening gradually, so availability may vary depending on the vehicle and region.
What's New in Tesla Maps Update NA-2026.38?
The latest NA-2026.38 maps update includes more than newly constructed roads and updated points of interest.
It also refreshes road geometry, speed limit information, and lane guidance, all of which contribute to how Tesla vehicles understand road networks and plan routes.
These data are used by both the navigation system and driver-assistance features, including Full Self-Driving (Supervised).
When road layouts or speed limits change, outdated map information can affect the accuracy of the vehicle's route planning. More current data can help the system make better-informed navigation decisions.
The timing of this update has also raised questions about possible connections to future FSD improvements.
Tesla AI engineers previously discussed ongoing work on FSD navigation improvements and pothole detection.
The planned navigation improvements include selecting routes that better reflect driver preferences and reducing unnecessary detours through smaller roads.
Because FSD relies partly on map information and speed limit data to plan driving routes, refreshed maps could help support these capabilities.
Supercharger Maps Offer a More Detailed View of Charging Stations
In addition to road data, Tesla's 2026.38 software series is beginning to introduce a new Supercharger Maps feature. The feature provides an overhead view of charging stations and real-time stall occupancy, helping drivers see station layouts and identify available charging stalls. Its interface is similar to the corresponding feature already available in the Tesla mobile app.
The display varies by hardware platform. Vehicles equipped with Intel Atom processors show a 2D overhead view, while those powered by AMD Ryzen processors can display a 3D station layout. The feature is gradually rolling out to some vehicles through software updates, with availability depending on vehicle configuration and rollout status.
How to Download and Install Tesla Maps Update NA-2026.38
Unlike regular Tesla vehicle software updates, maps updates do not generate a separate notification when they become available.
Instead, Tesla downloads map data automatically in the background through Wi-Fi.
Because map packages can be several gigabytes in size, they cannot be downloaded using the vehicle's cellular connection.
To check your current map version or download progress, open Controls > Software on your vehicle's touchscreen.
If NA-2026.38 has not appeared yet, there are a few things worth checking:
Connect your Tesla to Wi-Fi. A stable connection is required to download map data.
Check Controls > Software. Look for the installed maps version and any ongoing download activity.
Allow time for the rollout. Tesla distributes map updates in stages, so not every eligible vehicle receives them simultaneously.
Try another Wi-Fi connection if needed. A mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi available at certain Tesla Service Centers and Supercharger locations may help if your home connection is weak.
There is no need to manually install the maps package once it becomes available. Tesla handles the download and installation process automatically.
